Jane & Berkeley's Powel Crosley Estate Wedding in Sarasota

Powel Crosley Estate, Sarasota, Florida

Jane and Berkeley got married at the Powel Crosley Estate in Sarasota, Florida. The estate is often spelled Powell Crosley, and I have photographed two weddings here. It has a Mediterranean-style house, a courtyard with arched doorways, and a lawn that runs down to the water, so these Powel Crosley Estate wedding photos have a lot of variety.

The main gallery below is digital, in color with a few black and white frames. The film photos from the day have their own section at the end. If you're curious about how film fits into a wedding day, read my film wedding photography guide.

The day began with the details: white bow shoes, the rings, and a printed invitation tied with a ribbon. Jane's dress hung by an arched window in a patch of sunlight. She got ready with her bridesmaids in dusty rose dresses, and they walked out into the courtyard with white paper parasols.

Before the ceremony, Jane and Berkeley spent a few quiet minutes together reading handwritten notes, and Berkeley wiped away tears. A sign on an easel asked guests for an unplugged ceremony. The ceremony was under an arch of greenery and white drapes, with the water behind the guests. Berkeley waited at the end of the aisle with a big smile, and the two of them held hands through their vows.

After the ceremony we made portraits on the lawn, by the water and in the warm light from the tall windows, including a kiss under Jane's veil. The reception moved into the courtyard, with toasts, a three-tier cake, dancing under the string lights and a lot of hugs.

If you're planning a wedding at the Powel Crosley Estate or looking for a Sarasota wedding photographer, here's my advice. Leave time for portraits by the water and in the courtyard, and ask your photographer about mixing digital color, black and white and a few film frames, so your gallery has more than one look.
