Villa Woodbine Wedding Photographer: Coconut Grove Venue Guide & Photo Spots

If you're looking for a Villa Woodbine wedding photographer, you're in the right place. Villa Woodbine in Coconut Grove is one of my favorite places to photograph a wedding in Miami, and I've documented two full weddings there: Sarah & Dan's modern spring wedding and Marie & Martin's vintage boho-chic wedding.

As a Miami wedding photographer, Villa Woodbine in Coconut Grove is one of the most romantic venues I get to shoot, and this guide is everything I've learned there.

This guide covers what I'd want every couple to know before their Villa Woodbine wedding: a little history, my favorite photo spots, timeline tips, FAQs and real weddings so you can see what your day could look like.

About Villa Woodbine in Coconut Grove

Villa Woodbine was built in 1931 as a Mediterranean Revival winter home, designed by Walter C. DeGarmo for Charles S. Boyd. It sits on a limestone bluff overlooking Biscayne Bay and is known for its arched openings and wrought-iron details. Today it hosts one event per day, so for your wedding day the whole estate is yours.

The Best Wedding Photo Spots at Villa Woodbine

1. The Arched Doors, Terrace and Staircase

The villa itself is the star. Arched wooden doors, wrought-iron grillework, a terrace and an interior staircase give you a timeless, European backdrop for bridal portraits and couple photos without ever leaving the property.

2. The Courtyard

The courtyard is my go-to spot for first looks. It's private, it has gorgeous texture with the stone and greenery, and it keeps you close to where you're getting ready.

3. The Oak Garden Ceremony

Ceremonies happen in the garden under huge oak trees with the villa behind you. It photographs beautifully from the aisle and from wide angles that show the estate, and the canopy keeps everyone in soft, even light.

4. The Reception Under the Lights

Once the sun goes down, the oak garden turns into the reception, with long tables, candles and string lights through the trees. It's one of the most romantic reception settings in Miami.

Tips for Your Villa Woodbine Wedding Photos

  • Do a first look in the courtyard. It's private and close to the getting-ready rooms, and it gets most of your portraits done before the ceremony.

  • Plan for the Miami heat. The oak canopy helps, but fans or parasols for daytime ceremonies and water for guests go a long way.

  • Protect golden hour. Save 15 to 20 minutes around sunset for portraits at the arched doors and on the terrace.

  • Go big on candles and string lights. The trees, candles and lights are what make Villa Woodbine receptions glow in photos.

  • Have a rain plan. Talk to the venue and your planner about tenting options so your timeline doesn't fall apart if a Miami storm rolls in.

Real Weddings at Villa Woodbine

Sarah & Dan's Villa Woodbine wedding: a modern spring wedding with white florals, a garden ceremony and a reception under the string lights.

Marie & Martin's Villa Woodbine wedding: a vintage, rustic boho-chic wedding with a courtyard first look and a candlelit dinner under the oaks. A year later we did their rooftop anniversary session in downtown Miami.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Villa Woodbine?

Villa Woodbine is at 2167 S Bayshore Drive in Coconut Grove, Miami, on a limestone bluff overlooking Biscayne Bay.

How many guests can Villa Woodbine hold?

The venue lists up to 225 guests for a seated dinner. Always confirm current capacity and layouts directly with Villa Woodbine.

Can you have the ceremony and reception at Villa Woodbine?

Yes. Both of my Villa Woodbine couples said their vows in the oak garden and celebrated on the property afterward, with dinner under the trees and string lights.

What is the best time for photos at Villa Woodbine?

The oak canopy gives soft shade during the day, which is great for a first look in the courtyard. For portraits at the arched doors and on the terrace, golden hour, roughly the last hour before sunset, is my favorite.

How many hours of wedding photography do I need at Villa Woodbine?

For a full Villa Woodbine wedding I recommend at least 8 hours of coverage, so there's time for getting ready, a first look, the garden ceremony, golden hour and the reception under the lights.

How much does a Villa Woodbine wedding photographer cost?

My wedding collections start at $6,900. Send me your date and details and I'll share the collection that fits your day.
