A courthouse wedding in downtown Miami

Chris and David had a courthouse elopement at the Miami-Dade County Courthouse, 73 W Flagler St, in downtown Miami. I made most of these black and white courthouse wedding photos with flash, which is why this gallery leans so far toward black and white. The building is old and full of detail, and black and white keeps your eye on the two of them.

We started with the paperwork: the desk, the signing, and their hands with the wedding rings. Then I took them to the elevator. The doorway has gold trim and a small Elevator #2 sign above it, and with flash in a dark corner it made a frame I could not pass up. The cover photo is from that spot, a kiss in the doorway with Chris's white bouquet in front of her.

From there we worked through the building: a tiled hallway where David leaned Chris back, a red tile staircase under big arched windows, and a dark stairwell where flash and black and white work best. Chris wore a white tiered dress and David wore a black suit with a white boutonniere.

Family and friends were there, and the ceremony was in a white hallway with flowers on the wall. I kept a few color frames from that part: the warm yellow walls, the red floors, the moment Chris wiped a tear while reading, and the hugs afterward. Then we went outside for group photos on the steps in front of tall glass doors.
