Victoria & Orlando's Downtown Miami Courthouse Wedding

A Miami courthouse wedding

Victoria and Orlando got married at the courthouse in downtown Miami. A Miami courthouse wedding is short and simple, which leaves plenty of time for the part I like most: walking around downtown with the two of them and making portraits.

After the ceremony we stayed downtown. We started on the street with a red BMW, then moved to the stone steps and columns. The tall white tower in some of these frames is the Miami-Dade County Courthouse on West Flagler Street, so you can see exactly where we were. Victoria and Orlando took their time on the steps, and there was champagne there too.

Here are my favorite courthouse wedding photos from the day. They are the simple ones: the two of them walking hand in hand between the columns, sitting close on the stone steps, and a quiet moment in the evening light. The red car adds some color to the street portraits, and the stone steps give you a calm backdrop.

If you're planning a downtown Miami elopement, here is what I tell my couples. In Miami the ceremony itself happens at the Clerk's office, and the portraits happen afterward at the old courthouse columns and steps and on the streets nearby. Book your ceremony appointment first and build the rest of the day around it. If you can, plan portraits for later in the day. Downtown in the middle of a summer afternoon is hot, and the light is softer later on.

As a Miami courthouse wedding photographer, I would rather keep the day relaxed than rush through a list of poses. Give me a little time, a couple of locations and two people who are happy to be there, and the photos take care of themselves.
